Chrono Cross, Square Enix’s divisive sequel to Chrono Trigger, had a rough landing on modern platforms. At first, the hype was real with Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition not only bringing the PS1 cult classic to PC and Nintendo Switch, but bringing an official localization of Radical Dreamers along with it. Unfortunately the game’s in rough shape, with significant framerate issues and other snags. But nearly a year later, it looks like these issues are being addressed.

Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition Getting Framerate Fixes and More Updates
This news comes from Square Enix’s social media channels, where an infographic noting upcoming changes was posted. You can check the statement out with today’s tweet, which we’ve embedded below:
The planned update is coming this month, which is interesting considering we’re in the back half of February at this point. That means it’s coming pretty soon! And yeah, the framerate issues are noted up front, but there’s a lot more than just that being fixed or, intriguingly, altered.
A “wide range” of improvements are cited, but specifically called out is Pip, one of Chrono Cross’ many unlockable characters. Pip is a creature who players could send down one of two possible growth paths, depending on the kinds of magic it used. How this will change is not specified, but it’ll be interesting to see the developers make such a change to the original game and how it ends up being justified.

The note also mentioned several “secrets” hidden in the Radical Dreamers Edition hidden by Chrono Cross’ original director, Masato Kato. As for what those secrets are, perhaps you should give the game a shot and see for yourself! I would do well to follow my own advice, too. Maybe after the update smooths out those bumps.
