Can you Remove Weapon Durability in Tears of the Kingdom? – Answered

Fragile weapons are back to stay

One of the not-so-beloved novelties that Breath of the Wild brought to the Zelda series is here again in the sequel. Weapon Durability, or easily breakable weapons, are also present in Tears of the Kingdom. To make matters worse, the omnipresent Gloom in this version of Hyrule has left a strange effect on all metal weapons – making them even more breakable than before. So, is it possible to turn off weapon durability, or at least find some workaround methods to make your weapons last longer in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Let’s find out.

Can you Disable Weapon Durability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

First, what you should know is that in The Legend of Zelda games, there is no choice of difficulty. You can’t just turn on some easy or story mode and get some significant changes related to the basic game systems, or anything else for that matter. It is what it is, and you have to adapt to the rules of the game as not a single mechanic can be toggled on or off, so neither can weapon durability. So, the answer is NO, you cannot disable weapon durability in TOTK.

Ways to Increase Weapon Durability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The new Fuse ability is a game-changer in Tears of the Kingdom, but it’s still far from a complete workaround for breakable weapons. When you use Fuse to attach any item to your weapon, it will increase its durability, but it will still break after a while, even if you unfuse it and attach another item – the durability of the weapon itself remains the same.

In order to make a strong weapon that will last a bit longer, you need to start with a weapon that has higher durability – look for some weapons in the Sky or even in the Depths, because most of the weapons that you will pick up on the Surface map are rusty and decayed. When you have a good basic item, like a sword that is not rusted, fuse it with some durable items like Diamonds to create a weapon that will last significantly longer.

Of course, this can’t be the only tactic you’ll use throughout the game – you simply have to accept that weapons break in Zelda and that it’s part of the game’s mechanics. In every temple, after every fight in the open world, or whenever you defeat the enemies – they will leave behind some weapons for you to pick up, so you will never be without them. The trick is to have enough strong items with you in your inventory that you can quickly use for fusing and thus create stronger weapons when you need them. It’s a cycle, but once you get into it, it is kinda less annoying than in Breath of the Wild. Have fun!
