Starfield is almost here, so preinstalling the game can help you get into things as soon as it digitally unlocks. If you’ve got slower internet, its massive file size may be more daunting than exploring the far reaches of space. While Xbox and Game Pass subscribers have been able to preload the game for a little while now, Steam players may be wondering when it’s their turn to get in on the action. When Can Steam Preload Starfield?

If you’re hoping to get into the action straight away, you’ll only need to wait a little while longer. As we reported in our Starfield Preload news, Steam players must wait until August 31, 2023, to start preloading this new Bethesda behemoth. With a file size that could bring down even the biggest of SSDs, you will want to get your download started as soon as possible.

To preload the game, you’ll first need to preorder the edition you would like to play. For those hoping to get early access and start playing straight away on September 1, 2023, you’ll need to either purchase the Premium Edition or the Collectors Edition. For those that are fine waiting a few extra days, you can order the standard version of the game. You’ll need to wait until August 31 to start preloading the game.

Gamers have been waiting for something like this to come along for quite some time, and it may just be the killer app that Microsoft has been hoping for.
