Trying to launch the game from the default Steam launcher with any version of Proton results in an Error and the game crashing. Seems to echo the general issues that PC players are facing at the moment, unfortunately. For those willing to dive into the nitty gritty of things though, there is a way that you can get Helldivers 2 to function as expected on the portable powerhouse.
As per a Reddit Thread by u/Lucent_, you’ll need to follow a few steps to get the game running on the Steam Deck;
- Download Proton GE Version 7.49
- Run the game in Desktop Mode
- Change graphical settings to Low/Medium
One thing to keep in mind — this will make your Steam Deck run very warm, so keep your hands protected if you’re planning on giving this method a try. If you’re dying to give this a run on the couch, this seems to be the only way to get the game running consistently and running well. Helldivers 2 does seem to be the perfect game to play with friends, so getting the chance to play on the go does seem like a pretty great plan.
