Remember the Hellfire from previous Borderlands games? We'll tell you how to get it in Borderlands 3 too, and how it's changed.

If you’re no stranger to the Borderlands franchise and Borderlands 3 has been akin to greeting an old friend, then you’ll know that some fan-favorite guns have stood the test of time. The Hellfire is one of those guns, and it has long been revered and feared for its ridiculous amounts of burn damage. If you’ve ever wanted to literally rain hellfire down on your foes, then this has historically been the gun of choice for like-minded individuals. Check out our Borderlands 3 Hellfire guide to figure out how to get this weapon in the series’ latest title, and what has changed about it.

Borderlands 3 Hellfire Guide: Where to Find This Weapon

First things first, the Hellfire that appears in Borderlands 3 has undergone substantial changes compared to the powerhouse weapon that it was in earlier games. We’ve summarized the salient points here:

  • Instead of its old Maliwan tag, it looks like the tech has since been acquired by Dahl
  • The Hellfire is a Fully Automatic SMG
  • It doesn’t have very high base damage, but it still maintains its high rate of Status Effect damage and a good fire rate
  • As per its unique status and the playstyle it suits, it has a high Status Effect chance that sits around 23%

If you’re unsure about where to find the Borderlands 3 Hellfire legendary weapon, then we’d recommend scoping out Eden-6. As a general rule, it seems like the drop rates for rare weapons and the sort are higher based on the game’s scaling difficulty levels, so if you’re really serious about farming it, we would keep that in mind too.

If you head to the Voracious Canopy once you’re on Eden-6, there should be a rampaging Jabbermogwai. If not, a Hammerlock quest getting you to slay one as part of Legendary Hunt is easily picked up in the vicinity. Use a Fire weapon to kill this monster kicking around the north-westerly part of the map, and it has a chance to drop the Hellfire weapon on death. This is the only place currently available to you to farm that weapon, and the only method that works, so you’ll have to settle down for a bit and grind away at this if you’re considering an incendiary damage build. We’d reckon that this gun is pretty indispensable.

Now that you have our Borderlands 3 Hellfire guide on hand, and you know exactly which rampaging beast to down to get it, it’s just a matter of taking the time out of your busy Vault Hunting schedule to farm those kills. Curious about what our Borderlands 3 review was like? Check it out today.
