If you’re a BDO veteran, you know precisely what today’s patch notes mean. The Land of the Morning Light is finally out, and its patch notes are huge. Here is Black Desert Online’s Land of the Morning Light expansion patch notes.
Black Desert Online: The Land of the Morning Light Patch Notes
The Land of the Morning Light is the most anticipated and innovative expansion to hit Black Desert Online since it was released seven years ago. Featuring beautiful villages, cherry-blossom speckled woods, this expansion takes players straight into the Joseon Dynasty. Even the bosses are plucked straight from folktales that are centuries years old. It’s only natural that this big, ambitious new expansion has the patch notes to match. And since they’re so long, let’s dive right into it.
- Doors to the Land of the Morning Light have opened, allowing Black Desert Adventurers, villagers, and traders to enter after Port Ratt was renamed to Nampo.
- The residents of the Land of the Morning Light, as well as the nobles and traders of Calpheon, Abets, and countless Adventurers, continue to flock to the region.
Start of Adventure – Land of the Morning Light
Land of the Morning Light has been added as a starting point for the Black Desert world. Now, Adventurers can choose Land of the Morning Light as the location to start their journey and watch their character grow by playing through the continent’s main questlines. Rest assured though if you are a novice Adventurer, as the boss battles that you will encounter during the main questlines are set to be approachable even for beginners. With this update, The Ancient Stone Chamber, Mountain of Eternal Winter, and Land of the Morning Light are now the new set of starting zones for all Adventurers. We will continue to do our best in introducing new and exciting ways for you to adventure. Thank you!
- You can now choose from a variety of regions: Land of the Morning Light, Mountain of Eternal Winter, and the Ancient Stone Chamber to start your adventure upon creating a new character.
For new Adventurers who have chosen the Land of the Morning Light as their starting region, you will be able to move to the Mediah region upon completing all the main questlines in the Land of the Morning Light. After you reach Lv. 56 and complete all the main Land of the Morning Light questlines, you can accept and complete your character’s Awakening/Succession, Ascension, or Talent questlines.
* Please note that new Adventurers are those who have not passed 60 days (1440 hours) after creating their Family name.
* Current and returning Adventurers can accept and complete the Awakening/Succession, Ascension, and Talent questlines upon reaching Lv. 56.

[LoML] Black Shrine (Boss Blitz) and Orbs
In the Land of the Morning Light, there are no monster zones. Instead, various bosses with unique characteristics take on that role. The official name of this content is called the “Black Shrine.” You can first encounter the bosses through the main questline, where the combat difficulty in this main quest is set to be very approachable in difficulty. However, the bosses you face in the Black Shrine are much more powerful, even at Calamity 1, so you will need to prepare yourself for a challenge. Finally, the Black Shrine is only open up to Calamity 7 difficulty. However, anyone can take on Calamity 1 to 5 without any requirements. Please keep in mind that from Calamity 6, an Adventurer of each class must succeed in defeating the boss in order for the next difficulty to open up.
- New content, “Black Shrine,” has been added to Black Desert.
- The Black Shrine is combat content where you fight bosses who rule over the Land of the Morning Light.
- You can access the content by going to ESC Menu – Adventure (F5) – Black Shrine.
- As you play through the main questline in Morning Light, a Boss connected to that tale will be unlocked upon completion.
* Rankings and the major items (not guaranteed) of each bundle for each ranking can be found within the Boss Blitz Ranking menu.
* Once you defeat the boss, the charm UI for that specific difficulty will change, and you’ll see the Black Spirit mark at the top of it.
[Black Shine: Boss Blitz Guidelines]
1. The boss of the Black Shrine receives/deals damage based on a ratio of 90% aura attribute and 10% character attack/defense power.
– Only 10% of the Skill Add-on effects and buff effects related to the character’s AP/DP are applied.
– Only critical hits from attribute attacks are displayed during the Boss Blitz. (Critical hits based on the character’s existing stats are applied, but are not displayed.)
– The Critical Hit Rate for attribute attacks is applied at 50% during the Boss Blitz.
– All debuff resistance is applied at 20% during the Boss Blitz. (Resistance stats that have been increased due to a character’s existing stats are not applied.)
– Therefore, it is important to obtain and utilize orbs acquired during the main questline to increase aura stats for a confident victory.
2. You have 5 weekly successful attempts per Family to defeat bosses of the Black Shrine. If you successfully defeat the bosses at each difficulty, it will deduct the “clear” from your total count. (Resets at Midnight on Sunday)
– If a boss is successfully defeated, the number of attempts will not be deducted if you challenge them again with the same character.
– The number of clears will not be deducted if you are defeated or you forfeit the battle.
– If all five weekly successful clears have been used, you can continue to challenge the levels you’ve successfully cleared and your highest record will be reflected in your Boss Blitz ranking.
* These conditions only apply only to the same character who has successfully defeated a boss. If you defeat a boss with a different character, it will be deducted from your total number.
3. Utilize auras each boss is weak to and enhance your strategy by using orbs.
– Bosses are only affected by auras they are weak to and other auras do not have an impact on them.
Manage your aura to confidently overcome each boss.
* You can invest in the auras that the boss you wish to take down is weak to.
Sun Orb, Moon Orb, Earth Orb | Light Orb |
Gain additional stats against bosses with weaknesses to sun, moon, and earth elements. You can obtain some from the main questline. | Invest in the aura of your choice among the sun, moon, and earth. Gain additional stats upon investing orbs in auras the boss has a weakness too. You can obtain some from the main quests. |
Obtain Stats | AP 50 + DP 100 per orb. |
Additional Stats | 3 additional stats which can be freely distributed between AP/DP |
Light Orb Reset | Orb Investment Reset – 2,000,000 Silver Additional stats Investment Reset – 500,000 Silver |
Black Shrine and Boss Blitz Difficulty
- Boss battles within the Black Shrine are divided into 10 difficulties for each boss from Calamity 1 to Calamity 10.
- The higher the boss difficulty, the more diverse the attack patterns and the greater the potential for enhanced loot and rewards.
- Boss battles are recorded based on the level of difficulty and class.
- When the Black Shrine boss is initially defeated according to the difficulty level of each class, the honorable adventure is announced throughout the world of Black Desert.
- Calamity 1 to 5 bosses are open to all classes.
- Calamity Lv. 6 to 10 will only unlock if an adventurer successfully defeats the boss of the previous level.
- Applied by class.
If we were to use the Warrior class as an example, the difficulty levels of the Golden Pig King boss from Calamity 1 to 5 are open to all classes. But if an Adventurer playing Warrior wants to challenge Calamity. 6, that or another Adventurer must have successfully defeated the Golden Pig King at Calamity 5 first while playing Warrior class to unlock the following difficulty for another Warrior playing Adventurer to take up the challenge.
* The June 14th (Wed) update will allow Adventurers to challenge up until Calamity 7, and the following Calamity 8 will be opened in the future update.
Black Shrine, Boss Blitz Ranking & Rewards
The “Black Shrine” places a strong emphasis on challenging gameplay and introduces a new system for obtaining loot through Boss Blitz rankings. Firstly, the Boss Blitz rankings are now divided by class, allowing Adventurers of the same class to compete against each other — for example, as a Warrior, you will compete for rankings with other Warriors. This system rewards those who demonstrate superior skill within their respective class, fostering a sense of honor. However, it’s important to note that Boss Blitz rankings are tracked separately for each difficulty level to ensure a fair distribution of glory. Additionally, the “Black Shrine” offers a limited number of Boss Blitz opportunities, allowing Adventurers to enjoy the content without requiring excessive time investment. Each Adventurer has up to five times per week, and no more than that.
Upon successfully defeating a boss, Adventurers have the option to continue challenging the same boss and difficulty without using additional attempts. For instance, if you successfully defeat Calamity 3 Duoksini, one attempt is used, and you can continue to challenge Duoksini at the same level without using up any additional attempts. If you outdo your record time for defeating the boss, the rankings will reflect your better records.
Lastly, the method of obtaining loot has also undergone changes. Instead of receiving loot immediately after defeating a boss, rewards are distributed in bulk during the rank evaluation process every Sunday at 00:00 (UTC). The rewards are based on the recorded rank achieved by each adventurer.
However, we understand that not receiving your loot immediately upon defeating the boss can be disappointing. To address this, Adventurers can obtain loot by clearing each difficulty level of all bosses through the “Adventure Log” system.
- When successfully defeating each boss in the Black Shrine, the time taken to defeat them is recorded in the “Boss Blitz Ranking.”
- Rankings will be recorded by class and difficulty and all rankings will be refreshed daily at 00:00.
- Upon successfully defeating a boss in the Black Shrine, rewards will be distributed in accordance with the defeat record and ranking every Sunday at 00:00.
- You can collect the obtained rewards from the Black Shrine menu.
- If the rewards obtained are not claimed by the upcoming Sunday at 00:00, they will expire and become unredeemable.
- You can collect the obtained rewards from the Black Shrine menu.

Flame of Hongik and Dahn’s Gloves
Dahn’s Gloves, a new piece of top-tier equipment, has been added. Dahn’s Gloves were inspired by the gloves worn by the Taejo of Joseon, Yi Seong-gye, one of the greatest archers in the history of Korea, and come with a unique appearance and outstanding stats.”Flame of Hongik” is used as a main ingredient in crafting this glove. You can obtain “Flame of Hongik” by Heating “Embers of Hongik” x500, or at a low probability by defeating bosses. “Embers of Hongik” can also be obtained by defeating bosses, but you can also exchange “Crystallized Despair” x1 for “Embers of Hongik” x2 in Elvia. As such, Adventurers who do not mind taking their time can prepare for these gloves by defeating bosses, while those who would like to craft them as soon as possible can use “Crystallized Despair” to attain the crafting materials immediately. The reason behind changing the crafting method is because the Land of the Morning Light content is focused on boss battles, rather than monster zones. So we wanted Adventurers to have more freedom in deciding how they would like to go about crafting this new gear.

[Land of the Morning Light] Panokseon
We have added the Panokseon, a ship that embodies the beautiful and robust spirit of the Land of the Morning Light. While the basic stats of the Panokseon are comparatively lower than those of the Epheria Carrack, its distinctive feature lies in the ability to utilize 150 cabins to accommodate a large number of crew members, thereby increasing its overall capabilities. As seen in its appearance, the sturdy deck cover structure provides not only high defense but also deals high damage when using the Ram skill. Thanks to these characteristics, the Panokseon can be utilized as a versatile vessel that can be adapted for different purposes. It can serve as a reliable and formidable ship not only for various tasks but also in combat as a sturdy and threatening opponent on the battlefield.
Ever since we introduced the Panokseon, many Adventurers have expressed their eagerness to acquire it as soon as possible. However, as the vessel is made with considerably high technological expertise relative to its era, the construction process will not be an easy task. It will require significant assistance from the people of Moodle Village, thus it is crucial to maintain strong relations with them through activities such as eliminating the Goldmont Pirates that threaten the village, exchanging currencies or Crow Coins, etc.
- Added the new ship Panokseon, which can be constructed at the Moodle Village shipyard.
-
- While the Panokseon is quite slow due to its weight, and its stats are comparatively lower than that of the Epheria Carrack, its distinctive characteristics are the large number of crew members it can accommodate and its sturdy deck cover structure that gives the ship high defensive stats.
- Also, it has higher Ram damage than that the Epheria Carrack.

Witch, Wizard
In Awakening, there was some dissatisfaction with Speed Spell, as it would revert back to the main weapon state after casting. However, we have now enhanced convenience by allowing Awakening to be maintained immediately after casting. Furthermore, we have made changes to the hotkeys for Elementalization to prevent unintended actions from being triggered in certain situations. We have also significantly increased the damage of the summoned Tett/Gorr and Arne/Marg, thereby boosting the overall dealing capabilities of the Awakening Witches and Wizards. This improvement aims to create a stronger sense of unity and cooperation among them.
Additionally, with today’s patch, the Witch and Wizard have been imbued with new powers. These classes originally possessed potent abilities that aided in the regeneration of allies’ health and allowed them to withstand immediate damage. While these abilities remain effective now, gameplay has evolved over time and it has been determined that they are somewhat lacking. In order to address this, a new skill, Archwizardry: Mass Teleport, has been introduced that allows both oneself and nearby allies to teleport forward together. Archwizardry: Mass Teleport is a forward movement skill similar to the original Teleport. However, it allows you to bring along up to four nearby allies (party/platoon members).
This means it can be used as a surprise tactic when targeting specific objectives or when entering and disrupting certain areas. Conversely, it can also be utilized as an escape method during critical moments, enabling a group escape. Since their release, the Witch and Wizard have been regarded as reliable and trustworthy allies, instilling a sense of security and confidence among other players. While not a groundbreaking patch, the introduction of this new skill is expected to further elevate their position and strengthen their cooperative dynamic.
