Best VEL 46 Loadout and Class Setup in MW3

Another year of the MP7

Despite a new year of submachine guns, the VEL 46 is still a beast of a weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With some new attachments on the list, we can make the SMG even better than before, and I have the perfect loadout.

Best VEL 46 Loadout for Modern Warfare 3

  • Barrel: Lachmann Dart 165mm
  • Underbarrel: XTEN Phantom-5 Handstop
  • Muzzle: L4R Flash Hider
  • Rear Grip: Schlager Soldier Grip
  • Stock: Assault-60 Stock

Most of the attachments for this build are still from Modern Warfare 2 because not every slot has access to the new items in the game. However, there are still a couple we can use to make the VEL even snappier than before. It’s the perfect storm of mobility and damage in a small package.

Here is my build for the VEL 46 in COD MW3 (Screenshot by Prima Games).

Barrel: Lachmann Dart 165mm

Maps are a bit bigger in MW3, and the TTK is higher, so control, and bullet velocity are important for any decent weapon. This barrel has precisely what we need without any massive negatives like other MW2 attachments.

Underbarrel: XTEN Phantom-5 Handstop

One of the best MW3 attachments in the game, this underbarrel provides control and even adds some ADS speed. Some horizontal recoil control is lost in the process, but I had no issues with the pattern afterward.

Muzzle: L4R Flash Hider

In this game, the VEL 46 feels a bit tougher to control. Therefore, using this new muzzle piece to stabilize each shot is a good idea. It hurts ADS speed a bit, but that’s what the next attachment is for.

Rear Grip: Schlager Soldier Grip

Some of the attachments above will hurt the mobility of the VEL, so the Schlager Soldier Grip is used to counterbalance those negatives. Both ADS speed and sprint-to-fire speed are increased.

Stock: Assault-60 Stock

One last control attachment is added to counterbalance all the pieces. We are left with a weapon with neutral speed and much more control as a result. You’ll still feel snappy while being able to fight at mid-range with ease.

Best Perks and Equipment for the VEL 46 in MW3

  • Vest: Infantry Vest
  • Gloves: Assault Gloves
  • Boots: Covert Sneakers or Tactical Pads
  • Gear: Ghost T/V Camo
  • Tactical: Stim
  • Lethal: Frag Grenade
  • Field Equipment: Trophy System or Dead Silence
  • Sidearm: COR-45

With a quick weapon like the VEL you have some options. You can run Covert Sneakers to stay silent at all times or Tactical Pads for even more sliding mobility across the board. If you choose pads, you must equip Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade. Ghost should be used in all cases unless you are playing Search and Destroy, in which case EOD is a better option.

How to Unlock the VEL 46 in Modern Warfare 3

You need to complete Multiplayer weapon challenges, such as killing Operators with submachine guns, to unlock the VEL 46. As an MW2 weapon, you won’t be able to unlock it through leveling up. Either complete a challenge or extract the weapon from the Zombies mode.

For another great submachine gun option, check out my loadout for the Striker 9 in Modern Warfare 3.
