Best The Sims 4 Active Careers, Ranked (2023)

Control EVERY aspect of your Sims' lives

The Sims 4 offers three main job options: work from home, enter an unplayable void for a few hours, or visit your Sim at their job’s lot to help them succeed. Let’s dive into a complete list of the best The Sims 4 active careers ranked.

Best The Sims 4 Active Careers, Ranked

The Sims 4 has five active careers you can explore. Three are part of the Get to Work expansion pack, while the others are part of Get Famous and Dream Home Decorator.

Numerous semi-active careers allow you to work from home or go to work. However, I’ll focus on fully active careers today since semi-active ones don’t let you visit a physical work lot.

With that said, let’s look at every The Sims 4 active career.

5. Detective

At its core, the detective job is an exciting way for your Sim to fight crime by collecting evidence, finding clues, and using those to catch criminals. While the process is exciting, it generally stays the same during your entire time as a detective. By the time you reach the end, you’ll make plenty of money but will repeat the same cycle indefinitely.

Patrolling is also a peculiar system, especially if you monitor an area for hours with Sims just talking and committing zero crimes.

On the plus side, interrogating criminals and watching their reactions to your interactions is fun.

4. Doctor

Like the detective role, doctors in The Sims follow a similar path of starting strong but entering a repeating cycle as they advance in the career. While you start by feeding patients, cleaning their beds, and talking to your fellow doctors, you’ll eventually perform diagnostic tests and provide treatments.

Diagnosing and treating patients can be incredibly exciting but also stressful, depending on your work day.

The doctor career has multiple disease types you’ll encounter, each with different symptoms. Some illnesses have similar symptoms, while others vary drastically. In many cases, you’ll have to run several diagnostic tests to determine your patient’s illness, which can consume much of your time and make it difficult to get a perfect work performance score. Although it’s a rewarding experience, it can get hectic very quickly.

3. Scientist

The Sims 4 has various criminal, secret agent, and other questionable careers out there, but none compare to the bizarre nature of the scientist job. Some days, your Sim will invent new technology to visit aliens and better the lives of others. However, you’ll also create a particular object, allowing you to command others to do your bidding.

If that isn’t entertainment, I don’t know what is.

The scientist career is one of the most satisfying ones in The Sims 4 for several reasons, including its money-making potential if you’re willing to spend considerable time duplicating your inventions. While early-game objects only sell for a couple of hundred Simoleons, one later down the track can sell for hundreds each, allowing you to make upwards of a few thousand extra Simoleons on top of your regular wage.

2. Actor

The acting career is a wild ride. From having interesting costumes and makeup to performing on stage, actors have great experiences. You can even take risks as you perform, making things more entertaining or ending with a fumble.

As you act, you’ll also gain fame, the opportunity to obtain a celebrity tile, and chances to get awards for your performance. A lot goes into the Get Famous fame system, and acting is a great way to uncover the gateway to exploring it.

1. Interior Decorator

Being an interior decorator in The Sims 4 is a fantastic way to unleash your creativity and make money. While your client’s budget and preferences restrict your furniture choices slightly, there’s still a ton of potential when revamping a house, especially if you own several expansions and have a wide range of furniture choices.

In short, this pack rewards you for having multiple expansion, game, and stuff packs, especially if you mix-and-match styles. However, there is still plenty of potential even with the base game; it’s just a matter of using your creativity to make the most out of it.

That, in itself, is one of the most rewarding parts of the career, with money and Sim satisfaction adding onto it.

With all that said, it’s time to try out some of The Sims 4’s best active careers!
