The Ice Shard skill is one of the most exciting, flashy, and powerful spells from the Storm mastery class in Titan Quest 2. It has several variations, but mostly revolves around casting multiple projectiles that fill up the screen. Here’s the best Storm Ice Shard build to follow in TQ2.
Storm Ice Shard Leveling Build in Titan Quest 2

Ice Shards comes from the Storm Mastery Tree’s first skill. You’ll have to choose Storm as your mastery for the build, and you are either choosing Earth or Rogue as your second mastery. Earth gives you an overall nice damage boost to your spells, while Rogue gives you more cast speed, slight damage, and more mobility.
My overall theorycraft for the endgame involves reaching tier 3 on Rogue for Vanish and utilizing Mark for Death and Dismantling Tactics. Since Ice Shards excel in dealing multiple instances of damage, that’s going to be a lot of extra Vitality damage coming from Marks. Vanish gives you increased damage and movement speed to make the build more mobile. I’d suggest pushing through a Stormblade (Storm + Rogue) mastery.
Ice Shards is a strong leveling build already, so you can already start using your main spell at the very first level.
Active Skills and Mods

When leveling, use the Torrent mod for the first few levels. Once you unlock the 2nd modifier slot, switch Torrent to Homing and then add the Chaos mod.
Homing + Chaos mods should activate the build already, throwing multiple projectiles that chase all nearby enemies. When you have this mod combination, all you have to do is think about how to scale your damage. You’ll want to add Torrent, Projectile Penetration (at least one level for pierce), and Infused Shard mods in that order.
Add Storm Nimbus after reaching Divinity Tier 2 on Storm. You want to have Storm Nimbus up before getting the 5th mod (Infused Shard) on your Ice Shards. Storm Nimbis is just an aura that gets 40% of your energy reserved and gives you a big overall boost in cold damage.

Passive Skills

For passives, you don’t really need energy, so Arcane Influx isn’t useful for leveling up. Put all passive points on Raging Mind for some extra spell damage and cast speed. Add Cast Speed and Spell Critical Hit Chance as mods when you reach level 6 and 12 on your Raging Mind.
As soon as you unlock Divinity Tier 2 on Storm, which is when you add the Storm Nimbus, add Storm Guidance on your passive as well. It adds Projectile Damage, Homing, and Range to your Ice Shards. Storm Guidance is worth leveling up to 10 to get Penetration and Homing mods. You can remove half the points on Raging Mind, too. You just need the cast speed mod on Raging Mind.
Core Skills
You are most likely leveling Dodge to speed up your movement throughout the campaign. Add Cooldown Charge and Distance mods to make it even faster. Leveling Barrier is also beneficial, primarily for the Ailment Cleanse mod, providing a cleanse or dispel option.
Rogue Skills
For the Rogue skills, you don’t want to touch them until you unlock a lot of Divinity points much later on. Just add your point on Deft Hands for the meantime.
Leveling Gear and Stats You Want
Gearing is as crucial as your skill choices, and they give the bulk of your overall power. Here are things to look out for when leveling up:
- Weapon: A Staff is good with increased cold damage or some attack speed. A Dagger with cast speed rolls could be even better since you can add a shield to increase your defenses as well.
- Head: Try to look for some cast speed mods; Otherwise, resistances, health, and even energy rolls are good enough.
- Shoulder, Torso, and Arms: Get most of your defensive stats here, such as resistances and health.
- Necklace: Knowledge or any attributes stats that can help you equip more items is good. Cold damage and other offensive stat rolls are also good. Defensive stats should be the last on your priority list for this item slot.
- Boots: Anything with a movement speed bonus. Any other useful stat with movement speed is a bonus already.
- Rings: Cold damage, cast speed, energy, and other useful stats.
