Withers True Identity in BG3

If you go to the Baldur’s Gate Graveyard and find the “Crumbling Journal” in the underground mausoleum within the graveyard, you’ll learn Withers’ true identity. Turns out he’s Jegal, God of death, Lord of the End of Everything. Players have found datamined information confirming as such.

“Jergal, a god of the dead, awaits the player in camp. He is bound by the judgment of another god – Helm – to assist the players as penance for past crimes. He provides resurrection services to the players.”

Where to Find Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3

Withers can be located immediately after arriving on the beach and escaping the Nautiloid. Head East until you reach an abandoned chapel. You may have to interact with some grave robbers trying to gain access to the valuables below.

How to Enter the Crypt in BG3

From here, there are three ways to enter the Crypt. You can either:

  • Use the main door and gain access by talking to the grave robbers.
  • Destroy the crane and enter through a hole.
  • Get in through the coastal door.
  • Withers in BG3

Once inside, Make your way to the Dank Crypt; this room contains a giant statue at its center and several dead Scribes around the perimeter. Walk past the statue’s left side, and you should automatically attempt a perception check. If you succeed, a button will be highlighted on the wall.

Press the button, and you will unlock a secret back room. You can activate the Sarcophagus to enter a cutscene and interact with Withers.

How to Use Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3

How Often Can You Use Withers

You can use all of Withers’ services as many times as you want, as long as you have enough gold for it. This includes unlimited revives, unlimited respect, and so on. The price of these services never changes. You cannot harm nor kill Withers without unconventional means such as hacking or modding.

Tip:

You can pickpocket Withers to get all of your money back. Be prepared for really high-skill checks.

Once Withers has been unlocked, he will arrive at your camp the next time you take a long rest. From here, you can talk to him to resurrect a dead party member for 100 gold or respec your character for 200 gold. If you are having trouble finding him, he should be near the sea, beside a ruined boat.

Where to Find Withers in the Moonrise Towers

If you missed Withers in Act 1, you can find him in the Moonrise Towers in Act 2. Keep in mind that meeting Withers is fairly Act-sensitive, which means you can only find him in the Dank Crypt in Act 1, and in the Moonrise Towers at the end of Act 2. Keep in mind that Withers will naturally join the camp either way, even if you didn’t meet him. In the Dank Crypt in Act 1, Withers will be in the sarcophagus you see after entering through the Ancient Door.

You can find Withers in Moonrise Towers at coordinates X: -151 Y: -199. He will be on the Moonrise Towers main floor, directly in front of the throne in the throne room.
