The Kuo-Toa are an interesting race of fish people. Through the sheer power of their shared faith, they can turn anyone, and anything, into gods. And that includes a very lost and very vicious Redcap. Here’s how to save the Kuo-Toa from BOOOAL in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Dethrone Booal and Save the Kuo-Toa in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you crawl down into the depths of the Underdark, you’ll find yourself in the Festering Cove. An ugly name for the den of Kuo-Toa who are enthralled with BOOOAL, a redcap with a penchant for blood. If you approach the worshipping Kuo-Toa, you’ll get a cutscene where a blood-washed BOOAL will stand over a dead Kuo-Toa.
This Kuo-Toa was sacrificed to BOOOAL. And it’s likely that many more of the fish people will follow as eventual sacrifices unless you intervene. And it’s completely possible to dethrone BOOAL. But if you select the wrong dialogue option, you might turn the entire Festering Cove hostile, leading to a complete eradication of the Kuo-Toa gathered.
Here are the dialogue choices you’ll need to make to ensure that the Kuo-Toa survive BOOAL… and you.
Dialogue 1:
Pooldripp the Zealous: YOU! Our Lord of Murder demands sacrifice. You will be an offering for the great god BOOOAL!
- [Select] You can give it a rest. Your ‘god’ isn’t real.
Dialogue 2:
BOOAL: WELL, PRIEST? BOOOAL WANTS A SACRIFICE! BOOAL WANTS BLOOD.
- [Select] Are your followers aware you’re just a rabid little fey creature?
- Must pass a Persuasion check of 15.
Dialogue 3:
BOOAL: Shut it, you! I’m talking to… my Chosen! Chosen got power – you want power, don’t ya?
- [Select] I’ll just kill you and claim it for myself.
This last option, where you opt to kill BOOAL and claim it for yourself, is the most important dialogue choice. It’s the only option where you can fight BOOAL alone. Otherwise, the Kuo-Toa will turn on you, fighting with BOOAL against you.
Once you defeat BOOAL, the Kuo-Toa will start to worship you instead. Unfortunately, you don’t get anything more than your own group of disciples as a reward. But if you explore to the far south of the map, you can find a really sad letter from Doni the tiefling.
