Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get Icy Metal, Icy Heave and Icy Crystal in BG3

Good Mourning!

There are plenty of different ways to build your magic users in Baldur’s Gate 3, but if it’s cold damage you’re after, then picking up the Mourning Frost quarterstaff at your earliest convenience is a must. All components required to create this powerful weapon can be found as soon as you enter the Underdark. Here’s how to get Ice Metal, Ice Heave, and Icy Crystal in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Craft Mourning Frost in Baldur’s Gate 3

First, you will need to collect three items from around the Underdark.

First is the Icy Crystal, which can be found on Filro the Forgotten, near the Sussur Tree waypoint. His pet Hook Horrors defends him, so make sure you come prepared. There is no way to avoid fighting Filro, so defeat him quickly and loot his remains to acquire the Icy Crystal.

Next is the Icy Metal. Make your way to the Myconid Circle and speak to Spaw. Agree to help him and then head out to the Underdark – Beach. Defeat the Duegar here and then return to Spaw to complete the quest. In return, he will open the Gnarled Door. The dead Drow beyond the door has the Icy Metal in his inventory.

To acquire the Icy Heave, you must head west of the Selunite Outpost. Here you will find several petrified Drow and be ambushed by a Spectator. Win the fight and quickly pickpocket Dhourn (or loot him if he died in the fight). He will have the Icy Heave in his possession.

Now that you have all three parts, open your inventory, select one of the parts, and choose Combine. Drag all three of the Icy materials into their slots and hit combine. This will create the Mourning Frost staff and allow you to make the most of slinging icy spells.

Now that you know how to get the staff, why not find out how to clear the Arcane Tower, which also resides in the Underdark?
