Once you start BG3, you’ll find that you can quickly have a full party if you know where to look. Shadowheart is sprawled on the beach, Gale is stuck in a portal, and Lae’zel…well, Lae’zel hasn’t fared nearly as well—here’s where to find and free Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Where to Find Lae’zel in BG3
To find Lae’zel, you’ll need to go to the coordinates X: 219, Y: 371. Or, if you hate coordinates, just look north of the Roadside Cliffs portal where you found Gale. It’s pictured on our map below.
How to Free Lae’zel in BG3
Baldur’s Gate requires quite a bit of exploration if you want the full experience. And that’s definitely the case if you want your favorite Githyanki fighter back in your party. Unfortunately for Lae’zel, she’s been captured by tieflings who are rightfully terrified of her.
Once you’ve found Lae’zel, you’ll need to figure out a way to get her out of the cage. Approach the cage, and you’ll likely be presented with three options:
- Why should I help you?
- Don’t worry – I’ll get them out of here, one way or another.
- [DECEPTION] This creature is dangerous. Get out of here – leave it to me!
- [PERSUASION] Shoot the trap down. We must kill it before it harms someone.
- Attack the tieflings.
- Leave.
The bolded options are the ones that lead to Lae’zel’s escape. Both persuasion and deception require you to roll at least a 10.
If you opt to persuade the tieflings, they’ll release Lae’zel. But they’ll turn hostile once they’ve realized your lie. But if you choose to deceive them, the tieflings will leave the area. You’ll then need to shoot at the bottom of Lae’zel’s cage with a ranged weapon or spell.
If you’re playing as a Paladin, attacking the Tieflings that captured Lae’zel will cause you to break your Oath for most Paladin subclasses. Unless you want to become an Oathbreaker, you’ll likely want to use Deception to shoo the Tieflings away when freeing Lae’zel.
Doing so will destroy the cage, and Lae’zel will drop to the ground, free. Successfully deceiving the tieflings will also get you positive affection from Gale.
Choosing to deceive the tieflings will also lead to a second skill check where you can persuade them to tell you more about a camp they’re headed to. This requires you to roll a 5.
What Happens if You Don’t Free Lae’zel?
Once you find Lae’zel, you can choose to completely ignore her or just not free her. When this happens, Lae’zel will find her own way out, freeing herself instead and moving on with her quest by her lonesome. You’ll then have a few more opportunities throughout Act 1 to stumble upon her and recruit her again.
When left behind, you’ll first find Lae’zel again at the Mountain Pass where you encounter a small group of Githyanki looking for the mysterious artifact in your possession. Things can get hostile here, but if Lae’zel remains neutral or friendly, you’ll have another opportunity to recruit her at the end of the battle. If Lae’zel dies at the mountain pass as an ally or neutral, you’ll be able to revive her with a Scroll of Revivify and again recruit her.
If you yet again leave Lae’zel behind at the Mountain Pass, you can find her just a short ways away near the Rosymorn Monastery Trail waypoint on the Mountain Pass proper. This will be your last opportunity to recruit Lae’zel.
If you proceed onwards to the Creche within the Rosymorn Monastery without recruiting Lae’zel, she’ll vanish from the Mountain Pass. You’ll then find her one last time, a short ways into Act 2, as an Undead creature shambling around in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to recruit, heal, or help Lae’zel once she’s Undead. But by that point, you almost certainly didn’t want her with you anyways.
Is Lae’zel a Good Companion in BG3?
Lae’zel is an extremely powerful companion. She can one-shot enemies, and she’s super tanky. Her immense strength likely comes from her rigid attitude. She is quick to call everyone, including you, weak. She is intolerable to indecisiveness and does not like when vulnerability is shown.
But if you can look pass her rigidness, you’ll see Lae’zel really admires her kind and loves everything about her culture. A sort of kindness sparkles in her eyes when she talks about anything dealing with her Githyanki culture.
Romancing Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3
Trying to romance Lae’zel? Despite her aggressive nature, Lae’zel can definitely be soft and loving. To romance the feisty Githyanki, you will have to make decisions to gain her approval. Here are some ways you can do that:
- Agree with Lae’zel.
- Show interest towards the Githyanki race.
- Show no vulnerabilities.
- Demonstrate power and ruthlessness.
Once you have enough companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s time to start thinking about party compositions. Are you in love with yours? Maybe it’s time for a change. What if I told you there’s a dog, and he’s not even that far?
