How to Catch a Rainbow Stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As you’re probably aware, a plethora of new bugs become available every month in New Horizons. If you’re playing in the Northern Hemisphere, then the Rainbow Stag is available from June – September starting at 7 PM and lasting until 8 AM. For those playing in the Southern Hemisphere, you’ll be able to capture the insect from December – March during the same time.

Unlike other games in the simulator genre, Animal Crossing: New Horizons occurs in real-time, meaning whatever hour it is in real life, that’s what hour it is in the game. So, if you’re planning to catch a Rainbow Stag, you’re going to need to be prepared to stay up late (or get up early), as they won’t come out until at least 7 PM.

When you’ve reached the designated hours, you’ll find the Rainbow Stag sitting on trees. If you want to catch one, you’ll need to slowly and silently creep up on it, with your net in hand. If run up to it or swing and miss, the Rainbow Stag will fly away and you’ll have to find another one. Thankfully, they aren’t too rare, so if you miss it’ll be okay! Once you’ve captured one, you can donate it to the museum or sell it for 6,000 Bells, which is a pretty fair price.
