When progressing through the Dirge of Bilqis quest in Genshin Impact, you’ll come across a certain open area in a temple that asks the player for certain Chess Pieces that represent locations from all around the desert. While they have nothing to do with the Gnosis = Chess Pieces theories, they have a lot to do with getting more treasure, which is way more important. Here’s where you get all of them.
All Chess Pieces Locations in Genshin Impact
There are five Chest Pieces in total that can be used in front of the Temple of Gurabad in Safhe Shatranj. They can be found in certain treasures that only spawn after you advance in the very same Dirge of Bilqis questline.
More specifically, they’ll always be awarded whenever you’re about to receive (or just received) another piece of the Jinn’s fragments, which also increases her powers. This means that as long as you’ve been opening all chests you’ve seen in your way, you’ll not be missing any pieces when you complete it with the exception of the Temple of Gurabad one, which is received in a separate quest.
1 – King Deshret’s Pillar
Obtained during the “The Temple Where Sand Flows Like Tears” step in Liloupar’s Cell, right after first obtaining the Jinni. You can revisit this place by going through the entrance in front where you’ll use the pieces later.
2 – Border Fort
Obtained during the “Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part I” step after defeating a scorpion Consecrated Beast. Use the nearby underground teleport to reach the area.

3 – Soulferry
Obtained during the “Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part II” step after opening another closed door. Use the underground teleport next to it to get to the correct place.
4 – Khaj-Nisut
Obtained during the “Dune-Entombed Fecundity: Part III” step in the Wounded Shin Valley undergrounds, basically given for free by the quest. An underground teleport and a few grappling hooks are all you need to get it.
5 – Temple of Gurabad
Obtained during the Tadhla the Falcon questline, right after receiving the Jinni fragment. Use the Boss’ teleport to reach it again.
After grabbing all 5 pieces, head back to the temple’s entrance and insert all pieces to trigger a new cutscene together with the Memories of Gurabad quest. This one’s a pretty straightforward quest in which you learn more about the Jinni while also getting access to another hidden spot in the desert and netting you the “If They Had Know the Unseen…” Achievement.
