by Prima Games Staff

Fighting aliens in XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been a blast for the last few months, but you probably would like some variety in the fight for Earth. Well, 2K and Firaxis Games are happy to oblige with the Second Wave, a new batch of content available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

The content includes a number of new weapons and perks, including…

• Damage Roulette: Weapons have a wider range of damage.

• New Economy: Randomized council member funding.

• Not Created Equally: Rookies will have random starting stats.

• Hidden Potential: As a soldier is promoted, stats increase randomly.

• Red Fog: Combat wounds will degrade the soldier’s mission stats.

• Absolutely Critical: A flanking shot guarantees a critical hit.

• The Greater Good: Psionics can only be learned from interrogating a psionic alien.

• Marathon: The game takes considerably longer to complete.

• Results Driven: A country offers less funding as its panic level increases.

• High Stakes: Random rewards for stopping alien abductions.

• Diminishing Returns: Increased cost of satellite construction.

• More Than Human: The psionic gift is extremely rare.

Also available for purchase is the Slingshot Content Pack, which enables you to get to tackle a new set of Council Missions, where you’ll be able to battle enemies in the heart of China. Three new maps are available, along with a new squad member with their own storyline, voice and customization options. This pack will set you back $6.99 (or 560 Microsoft points) and is available today as well.
