A new game, Fellowship, joins the fray as it attempts to invent a new genre with its MODA game, short for Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventure. Fellowship brings together a lot of industry veterans from big companies like Blizzard, Ubisoft, Dice, and many more.
Chief Rebel, the developer of Fellowship, has worked on many critically acclaimed titles like World of Warcraft, Diablo, Battlefield, The Division, and Helldivers. They specifically have a team experienced in these genres to revolutionize the MODA genre by blending most of the successful systems in these games into one.
What’s a MODA and What Does Fellowship Bring to the Table?

As mentioned, MODA stands for Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventure, but what does that entail? The MODA genre aims to combine elements from the MMO, MOBA, and ARPG genres by focusing on unique and complex dungeon runs using a set roster of heroes and striving to get some loot to get stronger.
Players must work together to path through different obstacles and defeat monsters along the way with team-focused fight mechanics. MMORPG players will see some eerily similar gameplay as they look to form teams composed of a tank, healer, and damage dealers.
The ARPG element will come from its unique looting system and progression style, where players go through dungeons that continuously get more difficult as players progress and level up. Players go through different types of dungeon modifiers and always experience new mechanics through seasonal updates to keep the game fresh.
It’ll be interesting to see how this game plays out, but its success will hinge on its gameplay loop and its ability to engage. Games that see success in the space usually show signs of a deep and intricate level design that keeps players hooked throughout the experience. World of Warcraft and Path of Exile do this well as players enjoy the freedom of pathing to different forms of progression while not straying too far from the end goal.
