NBA Live 13 is nothing more than a memory, as EA Sports cancelled the troubled project last week, in the face of the far superior NBA 2K13.  Still…what might have been…

Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, Microsoft’s main community guy, revealed today that NBA Live 13 was actually set to be a digital download release for Xbox Live, and could’ve actually come out today for around the budget price of $20.  That sounds a lot like a similar strategy Sega pulled for ESPN 2K5, budget pricing it so it was more accessible to players across the board.

EA had “no comment” on the matter, so who’s to say how the real game would’ve ended up.

But no matter.  The game is done, though EA Sports says the series is going to continue to live on somewhere down the road, and in the meantime, you have NBA 2K13 to lean on.  Even though it’s a full price release, it’s very well worth it.  So dunk on, basketball fans.
