October’s usually a pretty strong month for video games, with so many new releases hitting shelves and people snapping them up.  However, this year’s sales drive wasn’t as strong as 2011’s.

According to sales numbers, sales for the month dropped from $1 billion to $775 million, nearly 25 percent.

“While we saw declines in hardware unit sales across all platforms year-over-year, when looking at average sales per week versus September, several consoles realized higher sales: the 360, PS3, NDS and 3DS,” said NPD analyst Liam Callahan.

Microsoft stated that they sold 270,000 Xbox 360 units during the month.  “This is a sign of increasing momentum as we move into the holiday season.”

As for what games sold the most, NBA 2K13 let the drive in the number one spot, while Dishonored did reasonably well with over 460,000 units sold.  XCOM was a sleeper hit as well, with over 114,000 copies sold.
