Modder Yui, best known for creating Elden Ring’s hugely popular Seamless Co-op mod, has confirmed that Dark Souls 2: Seamless Co-op releases September 22, 2026.

The project has been in development since 2025 and was apparently no small undertaking, with Yui describing Dark Souls 2 as substantially different from FromSoftware’s other modern Souls games from a reverse-engineering perspective.

Dark Souls 2 has always been the odd one out in FromSoftware’s Souls lineup, but it received almost universal praise for its multiplayer. Drangleic produced some of the most memorable PvP in the trilogy thanks to its covenants, invasions, dueling scene, and gloriously strange build variety.

Now, more than a decade after launch, Dark Souls 2 is finally getting the seamless multiplayer treatment.

Dark Souls 2 Seamless Co-op lets up to Six Players Conquer Drangleic Together

The basic premise will be familiar to anyone who has used Yui’s previous mods. Instead of repeatedly summoning friends, getting kicked out after a boss, and reconnecting every time somebody dies, Seamless Co-op turns Dark Souls 2 into one persistent multiplayer adventure.

Up to six players can occupy a session at once. Multiplayer boundaries are removed, and deaths or defeating bosses no longer terminates the session. Progress can carry over too, so killing a boss during a multiplayer run can also mark that boss as defeated in your own world. Items, keys, leveling, and other progression systems continue functioning while playing online.

Seamless Co-op includes customizable multiplayer scaling for enemies and bosses, along with optional difficulty mechanics intended for players who still want that punishing experience Dark Souls 2 is known for.

PvP isn’t being forgotten

The September 22 version will support invasions through a dedicated invasion item. Yui’s latest update also mentions PvP bracket optimizations, improved arena and duel matchmaking, and the removal of the Token of Spite and Token of Fidelity requirements for those activities.

Even better, one of the latest additions is proximity voice chat for PvP, which can be disabled in the mod’s settings.

There is one catch to all of this. Seamless Co-op only supports Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin due to technical reasons.

The original Dark Souls 2 PC release is a 32-bit game, while Scholar of the First Sin is 64-bit. Yui previously made the same distinction with Dark Souls Remastered and has said there are no plans to support the original Dark Souls 2 release.

The September 22 release is also considered an alpha, so expect some bugs while Yui continues development. Updates during the alpha period will be mandatory, with older versions being disabled as newer builds roll out.

Now you just need five friends willing to admit Dark Souls 2 was good. Good luck with that one. You can find more information on the Seamless co-op Discord.
