The day has come, a new fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been announced. Steve from Minecraft, the meme born reality is upon us. During the presentation today, Nintendo Director Masahiro Sakurai debuted a new trailer showing off some of what Steve and his friends can do.

First up, players will be able to play as Steven, Alex, Zombie, or Enderman. Not really sure who Alex is, but Minecraft fans will be happy to see their characters represented in the biggest video game collaboration.

Steve’s moveset was teased in the announcement, showing his trusty pickaxe beating up some familiar faces. We also got a glimpse of some TNT and Redstone wires, which indicates that these Minecraft folks have plenty of tricks up their sleeves.

Most noticeable, though, is that it seems you’ll be able to place Minecraft blocks around the stages. We’re not 100% sure how balanced that is, but it’s certainly unique and very on-brand for Minecraft.

Of course, you can drop a workbench down to craft swords and other items if you find enough iron. The trailer teases these abilities, but again we will have to wait a few days to see how Minecraft has been translated to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate formula.

Sora Limited has done an excellent job of bringing in new and exciting IP to Smash while retaining what makes them unique, so it stands to reason that Steve will be no different.

We also got a look into the different Minecraft biomes that will be used as stages. A nice mix of fall foliage and snowy cliffsides make for some fun stages. It will be interesting to see how these stages change up when you play them.

There will be another presentation just two days from now on October 3 at 7:30 am PDT/10:30 am EDT, where Director Sakurai will dive into more detail on these characters and show us their full move sets.
