Today, Capcom announced the “definitive update” is on the way for Street Fighter V. With the next game in the iconic fighting series officially on the way, it looks like this will be the final major update for 2016’s flagship fighter. This update ties up a few loose ends with its newer characters, adds some fun visual filters and of course makes some final balance tweaks. It’s set to roll out on March 29, 2022.

As far as the balance update is concerned, we’ll have to wait for the finer details on that. Considering how long Capcom has supported Street Fighter V and the number of major tournament cycles it’s had, it’s likely there’s only so much left to fiddle with. But whatever these changes are, they’ll have to live up to that “definitive” label.
Now for the fun stuff. Each character is getting a suite of tracksuit costume colors, which you can see modeled by Ryu in the trailer. There are also two new visual filters being added, one which gives a cel-shaded coat of paint to all the characters. The other filter is “pixel mode,” which seems to be an attempt to make Street Fighter V resemble an arcade cabinet’s CRT screen.
Finally, a series of “CAP-JAM” remixes will be available in the game. It looks like they’re being added for the final season’s new characters, which are Dan, Rose, Akira, Oro and newcomer Luke.
Street Fighter V looks to be ready to ride off into the sunset, although I’m sure we’ll still see tournament support and upkeep for a while. In the meantime, Street Fighter VI is on the way, which was announced via a teaser trailer earlier this year.
