Nintendo announced this morning during its Direct special that Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega’s reliable mascot and star of the upcoming Sonic: Lost World, will make his return to the franchise next year. The company also released a new trailer that shows Sonic in action, which you can view below. He’s definitely able to hold his own, whether it’s against veterans like Mario, Princess Peach and Luigi, or newcomers like the recently announced Toon Link, Animal Crossing Villager and Wii Fit Trainer.

Super Smash Bros. will release next year for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
