Impressive.

Dying Light: The Beast has been out for a year, and to celebrate its anniversary, Techland has shared some fun stats from player data over the past year. Some of them are expectedly massive, but one in particular caught my attention: players have killed over 6,500 Volatiles with pitchforks.

Raising Pitchforks Against Volatiles

Volatiles are the super zombies from the Dying Light series that emerge at night and are extremely tough to take on, forcing players to flee in most cases. They were a huge part of what made the original Dying Light so memorable, and their terrifying presence remains one of the series’ defining features. While I still think they’re at their scariest in the original game, they’re pretty damn scary and powerful in The Beast as well.

Some extremely brave players, however, have literally raised pitchforks against these mutated beasts and managed to kill over 6,500 Volatiles with them. Compared to the millions and billions in the other stats, these few thousand kills genuinely make me proud of the Dying Light community. Whether they delivered the final blow or just stabbed them enough times to get the kill, bringing a pitchfork to a fight against a running nuclear tank takes some serious guts.

It’s no surprise, then, that Volatiles are also responsible for more player deaths than anything else in Dying Light: The Beast, killing players a total of 39 million times over the past year.

Some Other Fun Stats From Dying Light: The Beast

Techland’s anniversary data includes plenty of other interesting numbers. Players have completed over 1 billion quests, killed 8.6 billion enemies, and activated Beast Mode 345 million times. The community has also logged 52 million sessions, totaling over 11,000 years of gameplay.

Co-op has accounted for more than 4,000 years of that time, with 1.7 million players joining forces across the year. When it comes to survival, the Repair Kit was the most-crafted item, while beverages were the most-consumed. Players also recharged their flashlights over 6 million times.

Physical Editions Are Also Coming to PS5

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Dying Light: The Beast is also getting physical PS5 editions through Super Rare Games. There are three versions available:

I usually roll my eyes whenever I see these stats posted after a while. Of course the playtime is going to be in the millions, but the pitchfork figure got a good chuckle out of me and felt worth sharing.
