Shopping Carts Will Be Fortnite’s First Vehicles

Squad up with friends and roll into battle using shopping carts in Fortnite.

Epic Games has teased the arrival of shopping carts via this week’s in-game news update, which was announced following Fortnite patch v4.3. No release date was given for the forthcoming update, but given Fortnite’s track record, it’s likely that shopping carts may be added with the next major update this week.

Fortnite’s in-game announcement for shopping carts says, “Roll into battle alone or with a buddy,” implying that the new item will support multiple players. This means that shopping carts will technically be Fortnite’s first vehicle, allowing players to traverse the map alongside a friend or squad member. There’s no details on how many players can fit in a shopping cart, but we’ll find that out soon enough.

Fortnite Shopping Carts

Shopping carts are an interesting choice for Fortnite’s first real mode of transportation. Unlike jump pads or the newly-added jetpacks, shopping carts are not really something you’d use by yourself.  While you could push your friend or teammate around in a cart pretty easily, it’s harder to imagine how you’d pilot a shopping cart solo. Perhaps the thrust from a rocket launcher could boost you to where you want to go, or you could have someone push your cart over the edge of a hill to gain momentum. Whatever the case may be, we’re sure players will be able to turn shopping carts into wild rides in Fortnite.

If you’re used to surveying the landscape in Fortnite, then you’ve likely already noticed shopping carts scattered throughout the map. One notable location in particular is the racetrack on the east side of the map, where shopping carts are lined up in a row like they’re ready to race. We could also see a new challenge involving shopping carts as well, so be sure to check back here for new weekly challenges as they go live in Fortnite each week.

Speaking of which, Battle Pass owners should make sure to finish up some of the latest weekly challenges, such as dancing in front of different film cameras or searching for 10 rubber duckies in Fortnite.
