As reported by outlets like The Hollywood Reporter, award-winning musician Shawn Mendes will be part of the Life Is Strange TV adaptation crew along with partner Andrew Gertler of Permanent Content.
As for why, Mendes and Gertler will be overseeing the show’s music. The TV adaptation of Life Is Strange was first announced all the way back in 2016 and progress on it has been quiet up until now.
With the announcement of Shawn Mendes hopping on board though, we imagine we’ll be hearing a lot more about the adaptation in the near future.
Shawn Mendes Joins Life Is Strange TV Adaptation, Will Oversee Music
Exciting news today for Life Is Strange fans as we have fresh word on the TV adaptation first announced back in 2016. While there’s still a lot we don’t know about the Life Is Strange series, we now know that Shawn Mendes and Andrew Gertler will be overseeing the adaptation’s music.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, both Mendes and Gertler will “executive produce via Permanent Content” while Joy Gorman Wettels and Zack Hayden serve as executive producers for Anonymous.
As for what else we know about the adaptation, it’ll reportedly be live-action and will be handled by Legendary Entertainment with dj2 Entertainment producing. In the past, dj2 Entertainment has worked on other video game adaptations including the Sonic The Hedgehog movie adaptation.
In the original press release from 2016 (as reported by IGN), VP of European Marketing at Square Enix, Jon Brooke, noted that characters from the first game will appear in the adaptation.
Additionally, the show will feature, “A new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events.”
In a separate interview with IGN, Life Is Strange co-creator Michael Koch said that he feels the core values of the game will be present in the adaptation regardless of the direction it takes.
The direction itself has yet to be revealed, along with just about everything else you’d want to know about the adaptation including who’ll be directing, which characters will be present, who will play those characters, and so on.
However, as mentioned previously, the recent inclusion of Shawn Mendes suggests we’ll be hearing more about the adaptation soon. Our guess is before the end of the year, perhaps even at The Game Awards (again, just speculation).
We’re also hoping to hear more about other projects that Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment are working on like the previously announced My Friend Pedro adaptation. While we wait for additional information, we’re curious to hear your thoughts.
Are you excited that Shawn Mendes will help with the music of the Life Is Strange TV adaptation? Are you happy to finally get an update on the project? What are you hoping to see from the adaptation?
