It wasn’t long ago that Jagex stated they were to host a six-week player consultation period in which they were to both send out surveys and host player panels to decide how Hero Pass could be better implemented into RuneScape. To many players, the obvious answer is to not implement it at all. Yet, it is clear that due to this process now underway, removal is not an option, and players can now only voice their opinion on how this implementation should take place.
And this is something that really ought to be done. The general sentiment online which is held by many is that Hero Pass isn’t the reason that people have either quit or moved to Old School RuneScape. Instead, it’s the final nail in the coffin, or the straw that broke the camel’s back, if you will. RuneScape continues to be bogged down by an incredible amount of MTX and FOMO-inspired gameplay that combined creates a predatory atmosphere where players are more likely to spend additional money on the game that they would otherwise not.
To complete the survey and share your thoughts, follow this link. It will take you roughly fifteen minutes to complete, depending on how much you have to say. I did write longer answers where required, and other players are encouraged to do the same. At the end, you have the option to leave your email address in case they wish to contact you directly for more information.
The consensus online is that this survey won’t change anything and that Jagex has missed the point entirely. At the surface level, it appears that they believe that players are leaving due to Hero Pass, and altering Hero Pass will fix it. Instead, it’s just the manifestation of Jagex’s desire to consistently throw more MTX at the game to see what sticks. Players also wonder if Jagex will cherry-pick certain people to join the panels so that they can push the narrative in a certain direction.
All the community can do now is take fifteen minutes out of their day to complete the above survey and cross their fingers that positive change may happen.
