Pokemon Legends: Arceus Gameplay Shows Off Gliding, Story, New Pokemon, & More

You’re tasked with completing the first-ever Pokedex, which means you have to venture out beyond the safety of the town walls. In the wild you’ll be able to freely toss Poke Balls, battle, and hide in tall grass to catch roaming Pokemon.

Not every Pokemon will be friendly. Some will attack you on sight and you’ll need to dodge or run out of the way of their attacks. Luckily, you have your Pokemon to back you up if you get into a bad situation.

Battling in Arceus is totally different. Instead of simply taking turns in battle, the turn order appears on the right side of the screen. This means that based on your Pokemon’s speed stat they may be able to move more than once per turn.

Attacks have two different styles as well. Strong style is a slower attack that deals more damage, while Agile style is a less powerful version but may give your Pokemon the ability to act again immediately.

This style of fighting in Pokemon has not been done before and we’re excited to see how it pans out. To start a fight in Arceus, all you have to do is toss your Poke Ball near a Pokemon.

We were also introduced to Galaxy Team, which consists of different sections of Jubilife Village. The survey team, the medical team, and the security team. Doing missions and requests for them will net you different rewards and progression throughout your time with the game.

Traversing the Hisui region will also mean having to swim across water and soar in the skies. Luckily, you have Pokemonn to help you do both of those things. You’ll see in the video that your trainer can ride the Pokemon known as Basculegion and because we can’t help but make sure everyone knows this information, read its description below.

“Basculin in the Hisui region can evolve into this Pokémon. This Evolution occurs when a Basculin is possessed by the souls of other Basculin from its school that could not withstand the harsh journey upstream. Basculegion fights together with these souls, which attack opponents as if with a will of their own.”

Truly sick stuff if you ask me. Luckily to cleanse our own souls, we got a very cute look at the new variant for Growlithe.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is coming out on January 28, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
