When Payday: The Heist came out a couple of years ago for PlayStation Network, it created a huge buzz with its cooperative gameplay and high-stakes action. So of course there was a bigger and better robbery coming down the road with a sequel – and now we know when we’re getting it.
Payday 2 has officially been pegged for an August release from Overkill Software and 505 Games, and this time around the team is ditching digital release in favor of a full retail release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
“We’re expecting great things from Payday 2 and are really looking forward to working with our retail partners all over the world to make it the huge success it deserves to be,” said Tim Woodley, Head of Global Brand for 505 Games.
David Goldfarb, game director for Payday 2, followed up, “We have a bit of a problem here at Overkill – there are just too many great ideas and none that we were really happy to throw out – so Payday 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network alone.”
We’ll have a strategic look at the game in the months ahead.
