Over the past few months, it was difficult to guess how successful Activision’s Destiny would be. Former Halo developer Bungie is in charge of it, yes, but the game is also a brand-new intellectual property attempting to find its footing among well-established franchises.
Following the conclusion of the recent Destiny beta for Xbox One and PS4, we may have an answer.
According to Bungie, 4,638,937 people downloaded and played the beta, which launched first on PS4 July 17th. Granted the game was free-to-play, but this is a promising figure nonetheless.
“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta,” said Pete Parsons, COO of Bungie. “We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”
We’ll find out how good Destiny is when it launches September 9th.
