OSRS Could Get Its First New Skill in Years Soon

Old School RuneScape fans sail high with a potential new skill.

It’s finally time for Old School RuneScape players to vote on if they want a new skill introduced into the 2007 version of RuneScape. The Old School RuneScape team has spent a significant amount of both time and consideration regarding the potential implementation of the proposed skill new skill, Sailing.

It started in December 2022 when the Old School RuneScape team pitched the idea of implementing a new skill via a community poll. The majority of players were interested in this idea and voted yes. Of course, there are always players who want to see the game exist solely as it did in 2007, and so much care had to be put into further discussions regarding such a substantial change.

Following on from the initial survey, in January 2023, the Old School RuneScape team polled the community on a range of topics relating to what kind of new skill should be implemented. This gave them the information they needed to then pitch three Skill ideas to the community. These were Sailing, Taming, and Shamanism.

From the moment that Sailing won the vote, the Old School RuneScape team has been very transparent with regular updates regarding how Sailing would work in the game. As of August 2023, the team is now ready to consolidate and share all of this information with the community and poll them one last time before Sailing will be locked in as Old School RuneScape’s first new skill.

Now it is up to the community to decide whether Old School RuneScape will continue to exist as it always has. This is, of course, the main selling point of this version of RuneScape. Or will OSRS change forever and implement a new skill, which in turn opens it up to future updates which continue to significantly alter the game. It’s not an easy decision for everyone, and so log in and have your voice heard!
