Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price and Release Date Revealed

The jury's still out on this one

During the previous Nintendo Direct, an “expansion pack” was announced for the company’s Nintendo Switch Online service. Today, the pricing and release date details were revealed as part of the Animal Crossing Direct. The price is more than doubling, charging $50 for an individual subscription or $79.99 for the multi-user family option.

Originally, this service allows for online play and cloud saves, while also providing a selection of NES and SNES games with added online play support. This new expansion adds N64 and Sega Genesis games to the mix. The pricing difference is an additional $30 for single users, and $45 for families.

Nintendo also announced that the new Animal Crossing New Horizons paid DLC, Happy Home Paradise, is also included in the expansion pack. By itself, the DLC has a $25 price tag. Having it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online membership is of course tied to that membership being active, meaning access is lost if the subscription lapses.

Nintendo Switch Online will be launching on October 25, 2021. A total of nine N64 and 14 Sega Genesis games will be available on day one, and an additional seven N64 games have been confirmed for pst-launch. No further games have been revealed as of this time.
