Rumors of a smaller Nintendo Switch have been swirling for months now but now we finally have confirmation from the Big N on what to expect from the new wave of hybrid consoles coming this September.
“Adding Nintendo Switch Lite to the lineup gives gamers more color and price point options,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “Now consumers can choose the system that best suits how they like to play their favorite Nintendo Switch games.”
The upcoming Lite version of the hybrid console arrives on September 20th and will be available in three colour options at launch. It won’t come with a dock, though will still be the portable system that Nintendo lovers have been enjoying. The only downside for this option is that there is no output to connect it to a TV, so it is purely handheld not unlike the PSP.
Like the regular Switch, there is no game in the Nintendo Switch library that will be unavailable on the Lite version, including the newly released Super Mario Maker 2 and the upcoming The Witcher 3 port.
The Nintendo Switch Lite will also offer a carrying case and a screen protector as well, which makes sense given that it’s entirely portable and therefore even more vulnerable to everyday issues and potential mishaps.
