While the Trophy support has been confirmed as both an update to existing copies of the game and a special feature of the new edition, there’s no news on whether we’ll be able to patch up old copies with the new installation option.
The new edition of Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to Japan sometime next month, we don’t yet know when we’ll see it in North America.
