Microsoft just revealed a brand-new psychological horror experience called The Medium that will be coming to the Xbox Series X later this year. This game, at first glance, looks like Constantine got drunk at a weird bar outside of town and got a little freaky with Alan Wake and you know what? We’re here for it!

According to Microsoft, the core mantra of this game is one simple theme: How your perspective changes your perception. What you think you know might not be real at all and what you want to be real can be manifested, but not in the way you might think. From the gameplay glimpse offered during the most recent Inside Xbox episode, The Medium looks like the perfect horror experience for those that are looking for a journey that gets under your skin and stays there long after the credits roll. It looks dark but not reliant on jump scares, which means the potential for an intricate narrative designed to enthrall is excitedly high.

According to Wojciech Piejko, the lead game designer for The Medium, “Each of our games, from Observer to Layers of Fear to Blair Witch, has a central theme that drives its creative and technological design – and in The Medium we focus on this. When you change your point of view, you discover new truths far different to what you had originally perceived.”

Players will transform into the role of Marianne, a character that is a Medium (crazy, we know) that is plagued by haunting visions and a terrifying blend of two realities: our reality that we see every day, and another reality that belongs to spirits. As she begins to receive more targeted visions, Marianne will travel to a hotel in Krakov, Poland where a horrible tragedy took place. It’s there that she will find a mystery that has triggered her most recent horrifying visions and it’s up to her to figure out what truly happened.

For those Silent Hill fans out there, Akira Yamaoka is returning to his horror roots to compose the score for The Medium in an effort to make the two worlds even more immersive for players. The studio behind The Medium, Bloober Team, is beyond to excited to see how fans take the latest reveal because according to them, this is their largest project to-date.

Bloober also promised that more exciting reveals about The Medium are on the way, so keep it tuned in here at Prima Games over the coming weeks, because more is definitely coming! We don’t have a release date at this time other than it is slated for a 2020 release with Xbox Series X availability!
