Mecha Break’s Open Beta is now available on Steam and has already hit a major milestone with nearly 317K concurrent players. While there was plenty of hype behind the upcoming Mecha multiplayer title, no one expected these numbers.

That said, it’s not all good news for the open beta of Mecha Break. A significant portion of that player base has been leaving negative reviews on its Steam demo page, criticizing several aspects of the current beta.

Why is Mecha Break Getting Review Bombed?

As of writing, 77% of the reviews on Mecha Break’s Open Beta page are negative, resulting in a “Mostly Negative” overall rating on Steam.

Since the title was a major hit on Steam, the servers were overloaded, leading to connectivity issues for a lot of players. This is what started the first wave of negative reviews piling up on the demo page.

Similarly, a lot of these negative reviews stem from Mecha Break using “ACE”, which is a kernel-level anti-cheat software. This is used by several multiplayer titles from Chinese Developers including Delta Force, but the general distrust has been reduced somewhat over the last few years.

Some players aren’t too happy about the progression either. Unlocking new units takes a long time, and the battle pass encourages tons of grinding with rewards seemingly taking forever to acquire. By comparison, other hero shooters like Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2 have the entire roster unlocked for players to try out despite being free to play as well.

It doesn’t stop there, because some players aren’t too happy with the balancing of the game in its current state either. Units like Pinaka and Skyraider have been severely nerfed while Tricera and Welkin are buffed beyond necessity. Additionally, the tutorial simply takes too long and can’t be skipped.

Finally, a sizable amount of negative reviews are from non-English regions, likely China. Compared to 694 English reviews, there are 3680 reviews from regions that are from “All languages”.

That said, there’s plenty of positive feedback as well, and even negative reviews mention how the core gameplay is solid and a highlight. We hope that the developers are actively monitoring constructive feedback and that the state of the title is in much better shape when it launches later this year.
