Earlier this year, at a number of Sony press events, the company touted a new feature that would enable players to use their PlayStation Vita to control games on their PlayStation 3, utilizing the front and rear touch pads to unlock new features you couldn’t get out of a regular Dual Shock.  But the time for talk is over, as you can now try them out for yourself.

A new patch for LittleBigPlanet 2 is now available, where you can use the PS Vita to try out new moves with Sackboy and the gang, including the touch screens.  Said the PlayStation Blog entry this morning, “Cross-Controller lets you to use PS Vita as a controller for PlayStation 3, allowing the use of PS Vita-only features, like front and rear touch, in PlayStation 3 games. More importantly, it provides a whole second screen where action can take place! This allows for an unimaginable number of new ways to play, some of which you’ll experience with the LittleBigPlanet 2 Cross-Controller Pack!”

Along with the addition of this feature, you’ll also have access to new levels that were built specifically by Media Molecule to utilize PS Vita controls, so you can try those out as well, helping out Sackboy as he battles a group of space pirates.

This new feature is available free of charge on the PlayStation Network now.
