League of Legends Fighting Game & Legends of Runeterra Card Game Announced

Yes, the League of Legends fighting game rumors have been officially confirmed. Did we also mention that there's gonna be a LoL card game?

While there were rumors aplenty about the various League of Legends spinoff titles that would be announced during the live stream celebrations for the game’s tenth anniversary, some definitely had more weight than others. In a surprising double-whammy, Riot Games announced that it was working on both a League of Legends fighting game AND a card game. Talk about wild!

On top of the announcements that LoL was going to get a mobile and a console version, die-hard fans are going to now be able to experience their mains kicking butt in two entirely new additions to the Riot Games stable of, well, games. There have been whispers about a LoL-based fighting game around for some time now, but this is the first time that it’s been officially confirmed by the team. Plenty is still under wraps, but this fighting game is in play and we can expect an update in 2020.

Those who fancy themselves more Hearthstone than Street Fighter don’t have to be disheartened, though. Legends of Runeterra, the League of Legends card game, is also being launched and pre-registration is open right now. That’s right, you can sign up to test out this card game and get into it right now if you like at playruneterra.com. There’s a bit of a wait to get in, but hitting the pre-register queue early could mean that you’re one of the lucky ones who gets to try out Riot’s take on Hearthstone before anyone else.

The team behind Legends of Runeterra has also made it really clear that they’re wanting to negate common issues in online card games like randomized card packs, so we’re excited to see what they do with it. With each Runterran faction currently representing a different playstyle in the game, it looks like mixing and matching decks and archetypes will be the key to success, with experimentation being the name of the game. If you absolutely can’t get enough of the tenth-anniversary announcements that have gone down today, check out what we know so far about the League of Legends anime. We can’t wait to learn more about Arcane!

As we find out more about both titles, we’ll circle back to this story and update it with more details. In the meantime, check out what we know so far about the League of Legends anime
