The Last of Us Remastered gives players an opportunity to engage in 37 Optional Conversations during the single-player campaign. Completing them all will unlock I Want to Talk About it, a Silver trophy that will bring you one step closer to that Platinum goal.

Note: We do not have images for all conversations at this time, but will do our best to add them on our next play through.

Optional Conversation #01 | The Quarantine Zone

The first Optional Conversation is just after the chapter’s opening cut scene. Joel and Tess will leave his residence and head out to find Robert. As you make your way down the street, avoid turning left and going to the checkpoint. Instead, head to the right where two people stand on the sidewalk. Approach them and press Triangle to have a chat.

Optional Conversation #02 | The Quarantine Zone

This chat takes place after you get your backpack and learn to reload your weapon. Boost Tess up to the ledge, then join her and emerge from the tunnel. You’ll find yourself in an abandoned restaurant. Follow Tess out the door where you’ll be able to trigger this Optional Conversation. You’ve gone too far if you get to the point where you have to retrieve the ladder.

Optional Conversation #03 | The Outskirts

This Optional Conversation takes place at the beginning of Chapter 3: The Outskirts. As soon as you have control of Joel, follow Tess over to the window and have a quick chat. This one is hard to miss given the way it’s set up.

Optional Conversation #04 | The Outskirts

The next Optional Conversation takes place after you escape from the patrolling soldiers and make your way to the large building. After going inside, you’ll see a dead soldier laying on the ground. Approach him and press the Triangle button to talk with Tess about it.

Optional Conversation #05 | The Outskirts

This brief talk takes place after you reunite with Ellie and Tess in the museum. You’ll have to fight off several advancing Infected, then make your way to the window on the far side of the room. As you approach the window you’ll be able to chat with Tess.

Optional Conversation #06 | The Outskirts

This conversation takes place in exactly the same location as the last one. Once you’re done talking to Tess, turn your attention to Ellie and engage in the final Optional Conversation of this chapter.

Optional Conversation #07 | Bill’s Town

The first Optional Conversation of this chapter won’t take place until after Joel boosts Ellie over the chain link gate. Head across the street and into a restaurant where there is an arcade machine. When Ellie approaches, follow the on-screen prompts to have a chat.

Optional Conversation #08 | Bill’s Town

The next optional chat will take place just after the cut scene where Bill handcuffs Ellie to a pipe. When the scene ends, approach a chessboard on a table at one of the booths, then press Triangle to chat with Ellie about it.

Optional Conversation #09 | Bill’s Town

This Optional Conversation is slightly easier to miss. After making your way through some backyards with Bill and Ellie, you’ll pass through a tree house and into a yard with a pool. Go inside the house and up to the top level. Head into a bedroom where you’ll also find the Boy’s Diary, then wait for Ellie to join you and apologize about Tess.

Optional Conversation #10 | Bill’s Town

One of your final conversations in Bill’s Town will take place just before the end of the chapter. When Bill tells you to search Frank’s house, head into his bedroom and grab the Note from Frank. Go back and follow the on-screen instructions to give it to Bill and have an Optional Conversation.

Optional Conversation #11 | Bill’s Town

The final opportunity to chat in this chapter will take place just after the last one. This time, head over to the driver’s side window of the truck, then talk to Ellie before you and Bill help her get the truck started.

Optional Conversation #12 | Pittsburgh

The first Optional Conversation of the chapter will take place shortly after fighting the Hunters that ambush you in the opening sequence. Head across the street and lift the garage door. When you crawl under to the other side, look at Ellie until she wants to talk about all the dead bodies.

Optional Conversation #13 | Pittsburgh

The next chat will take place a short time after the previous one. Joel and Ellie will vault over a railing and jump down onto the street. Just past the bus that contains a Comic, there is a car with a body laying halfway outside of it. Wait for Ellie to catch up, then have an Optional Conversation about the military. You’ve gone too far if you reach the point where three Hunters are seen climbing on top of a bus up ahead.

Optional Conversation #14 | Pittsburgh

This conversation will take place shortly after the last. Just after passing over the same bus that three Hunters used, you’ll come to a checkpoint. Look to your right to see a small guard shack with the words Stop feeding us lies! Give us our rations! written on the wall. Wait for Ellie to approach the wall, then talk to her about it when she’s ready.

Optional Conversation #15 | Pittsburgh

This Optional Conversation will take place just after a very short cut scene where Joel spots some Hunters moving a plank. When you regain control, look for the picture of a woman to your left and behind you. Approach the wall, then when Ellie catches up, chat about how skinny the woman is.

Optional Conversation #16 | Pittsburgh

Your next conversation will take place in the hotel lobby. After entering, go to your left and behind a counter where you’ll see a coffee maker. Approach it and press Triangle to get Joel talking about how much he misses a hot cup of Joe.

Optional Conversation #17 | Pittsburgh

An Optional Conversation is available in one of the bathrooms of the hotel’s upper level. It’s hard to describe due to how many rooms there are, but you’re looking for a tub that appears to be filled with blood and has two bodies in it. When Ellie catches up, talk to her about suicide and how she views it as the easy way out.

Optional Conversation #18 | Pittsburgh

This conversation takes place in the same room where you have to push the piano against the wall. Look for a backdrop in the corner of the room, then approach it to have an Optional Conversation with Ellie about her listening to what Joel says.

Optional Conversation #19 | Pittsburgh

The next chat between Ellie and Joel takes place after the part where she covers you with the rifle. When all the Hunters are dead, approach a tree that has a body hanging from it, then wait for Ellie to join you and talk about it.

Optional Conversation #20 | Pittsburgh

Continuing on with the Optional Conversations in Pittsburgh, the next one takes place after you visit the Ration Depot and boost Ellie up to the fire escape. When you drop down, head over to the front gate of the military school and talk to her about how she once stayed in a place like that.

Optional Conversation #21 | Pittsburgh

Your next opportunity to get to know Ellie will be just across the street from the last one. Approach a poster for a movie called Dawn of the Wolf, then talk to your teenage sidekick about how you saw that movie before the apocalypse hit.

Optional Conversation #22 | The Suburbs

The first Optional Conversation of the chapter won’t take place until you leave the sewers. Follow the street until it curves to the right, then look to your left for a house that has Will shoot on sight written above the front door. Wait for Henry to catch up with you and then talk about it.

Optional Conversation #23 | The Suburbs

Your next opportunity to have a chat will come a short ways down the street from the last one. Walk up to an ice cream truck and wait for the option to talk to Ellie about it. Joel will try to convince here that trucks that sold only ice cream really did exist.

Optional Conversation #24 | The Suburbs

The final Optional Conversation of this chapter will take place in the same house that has the safe in it. After you’ve searched the house, head to the first floor where Ellie and Sam should be playing darts. Wait for them finish, then you will be able to approach the stool and throw a dart yourself.

Optional Conversation #25 | Tommy’s Dam

The first of three Optional Conversations in this chapter will take place after you cross the dam and give Ellie a high-five. Head to your left and approach a small grave with a teddy bear on it. Follow the on-screen prompts to hear Joel comment about how the grave is too small.

Optional Conversation #26 | Tommy’s Dam

Your next opportunity for an optional chat comes just after entering Tommy’s Dam. Head toward a horse with Ellie, then when she begins to pet it, follow the prompt to ask her when she had the chance to ride a horse. Just for fun, don’t forget to pet the horse yourself.

Optional Conversation #27 | Tommy’s Dam

The final Optional Conversation of the chapter takes place when Joel and Tommy separate from Ellie and begin walking across the dam. Rather than follow Tommy, go to the right and talk to a woman who is holding a rifle. You’ve gone too far if you get to the point where you pet the dog.

Optional Conversation #28 | The University

Shortly after beginning the chapter, you’ll have the chance to engage in your first Optional Conversation. After passing the building where you collect the Flamethrower, look for a Bighorns banner on the side of a brick wall. Ride your horse straight up to the wall to have a chat.

Optional Conversation #29 | The University

The next Optional Conversation is available just after seeing the monkeys, and in the same area where you can enter the dormitory. There is a Firefly symbol on the wall a short distance away from the dorm door. Approach the symbol to chat with Ellie about it.

Optional Conversation #30 | The University

After boosting Ellie up into the science building you will have an opportunity to have an Optional Conversation. When you get to a lobby there will be a clipboard sitting on top of some stacked supplies. Approach and interact with the clipboard to have a discussion about it.

Optional Conversation #31 | Lakeside Resort

The only Optional Conversation of the chapter is available after fighting off the first wave of Infected with David. Head into a room with an elevator where you’ll see some dead bodies on the floor. Approach the bodies with David and hear him talk about how they were his men.

Optional Conversation #32 | Bus Depot

The first Optional Conversation of the chapter is right at the beginning. Keep your eyes on Ellie while Joel talks about his guitar. When the prompt appears above her head, press Triangle to ask Ellie why she seems distracted.

Optional Conversation #33 | Bus Depot

This Optional Conversation is shortly after the first one. After rummaging through an RV, exit and approach Ellie as she stands beside a bus. Talk about her dream of being in an airplane crash even though she’s never been on one.

Optional Conversation #34 | Bus Depot

The next optional chat will take place shortly after you enter the bus station. Wait for Ellie to take a seat on a bench, then approach her to check and see if everything is okay.

Optional Conversation #35 | Bus Depot

You can find this conversation shortly after the last. After boosting Ellie up, follow her until you see a giraffe. Approach and pet it to trigger this Optional Conversation.

Optional Conversation #36 | Bus Depot

Your next Optional Conversation takes place just after the one with the giraffe. Continue following Ellie until she leans on a concrete railing. Approach her and wait for the icon to trigger one of the more heart-warming conversations of the entire game.

Optional Conversation #37 | Bus Depot

The final Optional Conversation of the game takes place after looting a series of tents, just after you exit the bus depot. Head toward a bus that you must pass through and Ellie will get your attention. Turn around and she will give you the picture of Joel and Sarah that she stole from Tommy’s Dam.
