Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated The Last of Us has gone gold, and isn’t too far off from its release next month for PlayStation 3.  Today the development team revealed that there’s an advantage for those who prefer to buy the game digitally through PlayStation Network.

The game will be on the PlayStation Store the same day it releases to retail; it will take a bit to download but Naughty Dog did something cool here.  You can actually start up the game before it finishes downloading, once you hit the 50 percent mark.

This could be a testing ground for Sony’s PlayStation 4, as the company has stated that folks who are downloading games won’t have to wait for them to finish before they can start playing them.  Here’s hoping it’s a rather pain-free process, because the sooner we can play The Last of Us the better.

Look for the game to arrive on June 14th.
