Microsoft has big plans for its reboot of the Killer Instinct fighting franchise.
The game, which arrives later this year as an Xbox One exclusive, will come with eight unlockable fighters from the start with the $19.99 edition of the game – though you can buy them individually for $4.99 or purchase packages with the original KI arcade game and DLC skins. However, that’s just the beginning of the roster, as a second season of content is already in the works.
Ken Lobb, the creative director for all digital games at Microsoft – and a veteran of the original team at Rare Ltd. – talked to Eurogamer about expanding the roster with the second season. Although no other fighters have been announced yet outside of Glacius, Jago, Sabrewulf, Thunder, and a mysterious unnamed female character, it’s possible that a few more classic faces from the original game will emerge, including Orchid or Cinder.
In addition, the game will include a free characters that will rotate regularly, allowing players to try before they buy. Characters will be sold separately at $4.99 apiece, for those who don’t buy the complete package at launch, but there will be discounted options available if you buy a few characters and wish to upgrade to the full package. You won’t have to pay more than $20 for the full game at launch even if you buy a character or two indivdually.
We’ll have more on Killer Instinct in the near future.
