It Took Diablo 4 Players Three Years to Solve This Absurdly Complicated Quest
Diablo 4 loves torturing its players with absurd mysteries
Diablo 4 players have finally solved one of the game’s longest-running secrets, and the full solution reads less like a quest and more like someone at Blizzard trying to find out how much nonsense a community can collectively endure.
The Not Finding a Cow Level community says around 60 players contributed to the latest hunt, while the overall storyline has been investigated for more than three years. What they eventually uncovered is a secret quest chain involving three different cursed jewelry items, multiple expansions, obscure shrine interactions, multiplayer coordination, an invincible rat and, for some reason, a real-world 24-hour waiting period that gives you a 2 minute window of success.
To call the requirements and even the discovery of these requirements absurd would be a severe understatement. Sit tight as we try to walk you through this bizarre storyline and its increasingly difficult requirements.
It starts with finding the Ring of Misfortune. Players have to find a Slain Villager corpse, leave it untouched, activate a Greed Shrine and then loot the body while the shrine effect is still active just for a chance at getting a Lucky Coin.
Then, five players with Diablo 4’s five original classes (Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue and Sorcerer) need to bring Lucky Coins to a hidden wishing well in Scosglen. Each throws one in, triggering a meteor shower and eventually producing the Ring of Misfortune.
Next players must find the Ring of Jinx and this is where the game stops pretending to be fair.
Players must travel to Nahantu, activate a Blast Wave Shrine and start smashing specific destructible containers until an invincible rat appears. They must then follow it around until it finally dies and drops a Luckier Coin after exactly 429 seconds which was the number of tally marks hidden beneath the previous wishing well.
Then they took that Luckier Coin to a Moss-Covered Grave in Samuk and it becomes the Ring of the Jinx.
This covers the first two parts of the quest, but the latest part involving the Luckiest Coin is the most absurd of the bunch. Players datamined this coin 3 months ago, but only now has the mystery been solved.
It requires four players to split up across Skartara and locate four rare elemental golems: Droplet, Snagging Vein, Flowing Rage and Raging Fissure. The group needs to kill all four within a few seconds of one another and everyone receives a Luckiest Coin or else they must restart the whole process.
You then take the coin to a seemingly unremarkable pillow near Temis, place it underneath and wait for 24 real-world hours.
Worse, once those 24 hours are up, players apparently only have a roughly two–minute window to return and interact with the pillow. Miss it and you’ll be back to square one. Successfully checking it produces the Amulet of Dark Omens.
Finally, players equipped the Ring of Misfortune, Ring of the Jinx and Amulet of Dark Omens together and visited Lorath’s cabin in the Fractured Peaks. A hidden portal appeared, leading to the Unlucky Council, a secret encounter against Echoes of Lorath, Donan and Neyrelle. The cursed jewelry also has to remain equipped during the fight if you want the reward, so you can’t even swap gear.
The Reddit thread announcing the discovery understandably attracted one question; how does anyone figure this out?
None of these steps is something a normal player is particularly likely to stumble into, never mind completing all of them in sequence. It took datamining, tons of experimentation, and a community of hundreds of players collectively throwing increasingly strange ideas at Diablo 4 until it worked.
Even now, the community isn’t completely convinced the mystery ends with the Unlucky Council. The boss rewards a Horadric Coin, and players are already investigating whether it leads somewhere else.
