The Spike VGX Awards were full of a few surprises this year, including new project reveals galore. Among them was Hello Games' triumphant return to the gaming scene following its release of the Joe Danger games -- and it couldn't be more different or provocatve.

No Man's Sky is a thrilling first-person adventure where you can walk, swim or even fly around an original ecological universe, interacting with creatures and even blasting a few for good measure. It definitely has that classic space shooter vibe to it, something we haven't seen in games in a while.

Producer Sean Murray, who appeared on the show to discuss it after the trailer's reveal, said it's a huge project for a four-person team, one in which players can interact with one another across different planets.

There's no word yet on release date, but we should be seeing more of this stellar title in 2014. In the meantime, check out the debut trailer below. Wow.
