Several new changes have been made across the Fortnite map since the start of Season 6, some of which you may not notice right away. Most of the map changes fit with the “Darkness Rises” theme for Season 6, coinciding with several of the spooky new skins available in the Season 6 Battle Pass as well. We’ve rounded up a list of all the new locations and map changes for Season 6 that we’ve come across so that you can jump into the battle royale map and check out the new features for yourself.
Floating Island at Loot Lake
The bouncy surface of Loot Lake at the end of Season 5 ended up being quite short lived. The mysterious purple cube that melted onto Loot Lake during the final week of Season 5 has since recomposed itself for Season 6 and has lifted the island in the center of the lake high above the water.
The floating island is one of the most noticeable map changes for Season 6, as you can easily drop to it from the Battle Bus. If you want to reach the island from the lake level, just use the wind cyclone beneath the island to propel you up toward the land mass.
Haunted Castle at Haunted Hills
Haunted Hills is a bit more enticing this season, thanks to a sprawling Haunted Castle that is now perched atop the hillside overlooking the cemetery. The pointy towers make the castle look menacing, but there’s plenty of valuable loot to be had inside. This looks like the perfect place to throw a Halloween bash, so perhaps Epic will cook up some spooky festivities for this new location before the end of October.
Corrupted Zones with Shadow Stones
The low-gravity forcefields from last season have turned into corrupted zones that contain new consumables called Shadow Stones. Consuming these small cubes will turn the player mostly invisible, allowing them to pass through objects. However, the player cannot use their weapons while in this form. There are also chests near the runes in these corrupted patches, so land fast if you want first dibs on the chests.
Tall Corn Crops in Fatal Fields
The corn crops in the Fatal Fields farm have gotten much taller in Season 6, so much so that they now act as decent cover for anyone who wants to lurk between the stalks. However, there is very low visibility when standing amidst the corn, which can impact your awareness.
If you decide to check out the tall corn crops in Fatal Fields, be sure to dance under the Streetlight Spotlight near the stables as well to make progress on one of the premium challenges for Season 6.
Secret Bunker Under Wailing Woods
A new secret bunker has been discovered beneath Wailing Woods. It’s easy to miss unless you know where to look. To visit the bunker, head to the shack in the middle of the hedge maze. Break through the floor inside to find a hidden bunker down below, which appears to be a sort of testing facility.
Halloween Shop in Retail Row
It wouldn’t quite be October without Halloween pop-up shops appearing in various local strip malls across the country, and apparently the world of Fortnite is no exception to this. Get into the spooky spirit by visiting the new Halloween store that now appears on the east side of Retail Row.
There you have it. Those are some of the major map changes and new features that have cropped up in Fortnite since the start of Season 6. If you’re looking to sport some new outfits to suit the spooky theme, make sure to level up your Battle Pass to unlock new progressive outfits like the Dire and Calamity skins before the season ends.
