Epic Games has announced that they will be bringing the Playground LTM offline at the end of Season 4 on July 12 to begin work on the next iteration of the popular game mode. The news comes via an announcement posted by one of the Epic Games developers on Reddit earlier today.

The news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, since the Playground mode is currently labeled as a limited-time mode in Fortnite alongside the 50 vs 50 LTM. However, according to a comment made by the Fortnite Twitch channel, Epic is working on a permanent version of Playground mode for the future. This would be a welcome addition to the game, as it would allow a way for players to reliably practice their skills in a laid back, non-competitive setting.

The Playground LTM is the precursor to a full fledged creative mode for Fortnite, according to Epic. For the next version of Playground mode, Epic hopes to incorporate team selection options into the mode itself. Here are some of the benefits outlined with being able to select teams in Playground mode, as highlighted in today’s announcement:

  • 1v1s and 2v2s
  • Aim assist for controllers
  • Editing other player’s structures
  • Traps affecting teammates/enemies correctly
  • Highlighting teammates on the map
  • Damaging enemies with your pickaxe

The current version of the Playground LTM will be available until the release of Fortnite Season 5, which means that any replays that are created in the Playground LTM will be available to view until the current season ends on July 12. If you were planning to enter Fortnite’s Blockbuster Contest, then make sure you record and save any replays you’ve made before the season comes to a close.

Besides practicing your building skills, the Playground LTM is also a great place to check out some of the mysterious rift portals that have been consuming signs across the map in Fortnite.
