Fortnite Now Available on Nintendo Switch

by Larryn Bell

After months of anticipation from the Fortnite community, Fortnite is finally available on Nintendo Switch. Fans who are eager to get their hands on the Switch version of Fortnite can download the game for free, starting today.

Nintendo and Epic Games officially announced the Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite during the Nintendo Direct E3 2018 press conference earlier today. Players can find the game on the Nintendo Switch eShop, where it joins the ranks of other free-to-play titles such as the newly released Pokemon Quest

Epic typically updates the game on a weekly basis, and players can expect the same level of upkeep from the Nintendo Switch version as well. Since Fortnite for mobile has yet to release on Android, the Switch version of Fortnite is particularly nice for players who want to play Fortnite on the go without needing to have an iOS device.

Fortnite supports cross-platform play across almost every platform Fortnite is available on, which means that Nintendo Switch users can queue up with Fortnite players on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and mobile devices. However, if you typically play Fortnite on PlayStation 4, you won’t be able to log into the Switch version and will be prompted to create a new account on Switch. While still unconfirmed, it appears the issue is on Sony’s end and may only resolve if Sony begins supporting cross-play with other platforms.

The Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite is only the Battle Royale game mode, and there’s no word on whether or not Save the World mode will come to the Switch in the future.  For more Fortnite coverage, be sure to check out our guides on how to find all the Carbide and Omega poster locations to finish up some of the most recent Season 4 Battle Pass challenges
