We got a pretty hefty trailer for the game at the last big PlayStation 5 showcase but haven’t heard much about it since. With today’s new information, this game may seem closer to release than we initially thought.

The official website now has details on three of the characters we saw from that reveal trailer. Clive Rosefield, which is the main character, is the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria.  You can read an excerpt from his official description below.

“Clive dedicated himself to mastering the blade. His practice pays off when, at just fifteen years of age, he wins the ducal tournament and is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria—tasked to guard the Phoenix and blessed with the ability to wield a part of his fire. Alas, Clive’s promising career is to end in tragedy at the hands of a mysterious dark Eikon, Ifrit, setting him on a dangerous road to revenge.”

The next character introduced today is Joshua Rosfield. Who we learned is CLive’s younger brother and the person who inherited the burden of the Phoenix. In that original launch trailer, we see Joshua go through some pretty traumatic events.

“While Clive will gladly throw himself into any danger, Joshua quails at the sight of a carrot on his dinner plate. But carrots become the least of his concern when he, too, is swept up into the tragic events that change Clive’s life forever.”

Last but certainly not least is the character, Jill Warrick. You can read her description below.

“Born in the fallen Northern Territories, Jill was taken from her homeland at a tender age to become a ward of Rosaria, securing peace between the two warring nations. The Archduke insisted that she be raised alongside his sons, and now, at twelve years of age, she is as much a part of the Rosfield household as Clive and Joshua. Ever kind, gracious, and unassuming, Jill has become a trusted confidant to the brothers.”

Now it’s time to go back and rewatch that original trailer for the game to see if we can put any new pieces of information together. Final Fantasy XVI is shaping up to be one hell of a journey, and we can’t wait to find out when it will release.

One other big piece of news we got from the website is how the world is divided. The world of Valisthea is divided into multiple Realms.

  • The Grand Duchy of Rosaria
  • The Holy Empire of Sanbreque
  • The Kingdom of Waloed
  • The Dhalmekian Republic
  • The Iron Kingdom
  • The Crystalline Dominion

Each of these Realms all has their own motivations and characters you will meet along the way. You can get more information on each Realm here.
