Today, Epic announced a browser-based app that creates digital humans much quicker, and easier than ever before. It’s called the MetaHuman Creator. You can watch a demo reel of it below.
Epic Announces MetaHuman Creator, An All-New Way To Create Digital Humans
It’s wild to see how simple some of the creation tools are. Here is some more information about it from the Unreal Engine website.
“MetaHuman Creator is a cloud-streamed app designed to take real-time digital human creation from weeks or months to less than an hour, without compromising on quality. It works by drawing from an ever-growing library of variants of human appearance and motion, and enabling you to create convincing new characters through intuitive workflows that let you sculpt and craft the result you want.”
It’s clear that this is an ever-evolving tool that Epic wants Unreal engine users to use. While taking a lot of the heavy lifting for the developers this allows for quicker, more detailed digital humans in games, television, and movies.
It’s unclear how well this will work on current hardware or even lower-spec hardware. These models have high fidelity and detail to them, how many of these can be on screen at once?
Once you’ve created the model you can animate it using performance tools like Live Link Face IOS app or others like ARKit, DI4D, Digital Domain, Dynamixyz, Faceware, Jali, Speech Graphics, and Cube Motion.
MetaHuman Creator will enter Early Access within the next few months.
