Surprisingly enough, today’s Nintendo Direct wasn’t entirely about the 3DS. Nintendo also saved a couple of news bits for its Wii U console including a treat that will no doubt thrill SNES fans.
Earthbound, a cult RPG that released back in the Super Nintendo days, will be coming to the Wii U Virtual Console soon. Though details aren’t heavily available yet, we expect it to be a straight port of the original game.
Pikmin 3, the long-awaited sequel to the popular action/strategy franchise, has a release date. The game will be released on our shores on August 4th, and will come with yet another Pikmin type, a sneaky pink one that resembles a bomb. Could he be used for explosive purposes? We’ll see soon…
Finally, a free system update will be released next week that will allow Wii U owners to download games when the system is on standby rather than waiting for them to finish while your system is on, only to shut down afterward. Sounds good to us.
Look for more Wii U news in the months ahead at E3!
