Dota 2 Dark Carnival Event is Out – Complete Event Details
The long wait is over for Dota 2 fans.
The Dark Carnival event has finally arrived in Dota 2. Axe is no longer disabled, and the temporary free Automaton Persona Axe cosmetic is now available in the store. There are several other new and exciting skins, including five new Personas, a new treasure set, and a complete campaign event out for Dark Carnival.
Here are all the details for the Dark Carnival event, including how to get some free Arcanas and the Dark Carnival Store selections.
Complete Dark Carnival Event Details in Dota 2
The Train Mechanics
- Unlock nodes on the map to drive the story of Dark Carnival forward and unlock content, including story snippets, cosmetic items, redeemable currencies, and minigames.
- The Main Quest of the map, including story and rewards, is available for free to everyone.
- Unlocking each node requires a unique set of tickets. You earn tickets by just playing Dota 2 games.
How to Earn Dark Carnival Tickets
- Every hero has a set of three tickets.
- If you win a match with that hero, you’ll earn one of each ticket. If you lose, you’ll get one of the three tickets randomly. Turbo matches only grant two tickets for a win and none for a loss.
- Earned tickets will stay in your inventory until you use them to unlock nodes on the map. You can also use the Ticket Trader to exchange tickets you have for ones you need.
The Oracle
- The first Dota game you play per day will earn you a Seeing Stone.
- Bring Seeing Stones to The Oracle for additional rewards, including tickets, candy, showcase decorations, in-game consumables, and cosmetics.
Earning Currencies
Dark Carnival Discount Coins drop from unlocking specific paths on the map. After collecting 10 Discount Coins, you can trade them in for a $7.99 discount on anything in the Dark Carnival Store costing $7.99 or more. Any item that costs $7.99 will become free. These Dark Carnival Discount Coins can only be redeemed during the Dark Carnival event.
Candy Sacks are also earned from unlocking specific paths on the map. Once you progress through the Carnival Candyworks map, you can trade candy for a variety of items, treasure, and maybe even Arcanas. If the item offerings aren’t good, you can re-roll to more options, but you have to win a match to earn more re-rolls.
Treasures of Wonder are also on the map. These are basically free treasures from a set because they don’t require a key.

Each Automaton Persona skin costs $14.99 outright. However, if you plan to play, you can use the Dark Carnival Discount Coins mentioned earlier to drop the price to $7.00.

All the non-bonus rewards (rare, very rare, ultra rare) are only of rare quality (blue). All the others are mythical (purple), including the Pudge Woodcutter cosmetic. There aren’t any Immortals or Arcanas included in the Treasure of Wonders.
The Secret Rooms Pack – $14.99
The Secret Rooms Pack features two additional “secret” rooms in the Train. These give extra rewards which total to:
- 15x Dark Carnival Store Coins
- 16x Candy Sacks
- 3x Treasure of Wonders
- 5x Carnival Goodies
- 6x Seeing Stones
Apart from these currencies, you also get Dark Carnival Creeps, which alter the melee, ranged, and siege units in the game. There’s also a Dark Carnival Music Pack for new tracks.
While these Secret Rooms are visible in the Train, you cannot pass through them if you don’t buy the pack.
The Dark Carnival Prize Pack – $7.99
The Dark Carnival Prize Pack only gives some currencies to help you out in the Candyworks. You receive:
- 30x Candy Bags
- 10x Candyworks Re-rolls
- 3x Seeing Stones
